O terror e o horror em "The Black Cat"

Literature is able to awaken in the reader a variety of emotions according to the effect sought in each literary work. This research presents an analysis of Edgar Alan Poe's short story "The Black Cat," which aims to point out elements of horror and horror literature used by the North American short story writer. Through a bibliographic study based on authors such as Smith, Clery, Hogle, Botting, Punter and France, it was possible to identify aspects of the Gothic literature present in Poe's story. To fulfill the purpose of this study, we initially developed a brief description of Poe's life, then it was explained how Gothic literature was consolidated and diffused, and then, finally, it was pointed out how the literature of horror and terror appears in " The Black Cat " and contributes to the unity of effect of doubt.A literatura é capaz de despertar no leitor uma variedade de emoções de acordo com o efeito buscado em cada obra. Este trabalho apresenta uma análise sobre o conto “The Black Cat”, de Edgar Alan Poe, que tem como objetivo apontar os elementos da literatura de horror e terror utilizados pelo contista estadunidense. Por intermédio de um estudo bibliográfico baseado em autores como Smith, Clery, Hogle, Botting, Punter e França, foi possível identificar aspectos da literatura gótica presentes no conto de Poe. Para cumprir o propósito desse estudo, inicialmente foi desenvolvida uma breve descrição sobre a vida de Poe, em seguida, a teorização de como a literatura gótica foi consolidada e difundida para, então, finalmente, expor como a literatura de horror e terror aparecem em “The Black Cat” e contribuem para unidade de efeito da dúvida
